5 Steps to Greater Productivity

The 5 step process to greater productivity for students and business people

Posted on September 21, 2011 at 8:18am  Print

Most students and business people face multiple challenges simultaneously. A student sitting down to do homework may have as assignment for each class as well as some shorter and longer term projects to work on… this begs the questions: How do you decide what to do first? and How do you manage your time?

What to do first is most often the most important and highest priority task or assignment.  This is of course a relative thing for each person, but it is something that needs to be quickly evaluated and sorted.  Here is a basic protocol to accomplish this that we at mAke the grAde do with our students daily.

1. make a list of all the ongoing assignments
2. Assign S (short) or L (long) term time frames to each task (typically S are due the next day and L beyond one day like an upcoming test)
3. rank the tasks in the order of importants – all the S then all the L
4. Estimate the time needed to do each task
5. Use the chart to set up your homework or work time.

This system is simple, yet powerful, and will increase both efficiency and productivity.

Business Education Pays

Education is not just for school age students,
Education is also for people in business and in the work force.

When people think of education, they often think of school and classrooms and homework. For some, the end of their formal education is college, or high school.  However, once in the work force, or business owners, or sales people… gain great benefit from continuing their professional education.  This may take the form of advanced degrees (e.g. an MBA) or in more targetted classes (how to use Excel or PowerPoint).   Some companies will set up custom educational programs to address specific needs or training in skills that they want their employees to have.

mAke the grAde, through our sister service CrossTernal Methodology, offers classes for people in business and sales. These classes focus on prospecting skills, follow up techniques, business automation and time leveraging as well as sales and presentation skills.  Best of all, potential students can ‘test the waters’ with a free consultation at www.crossternal.com

It’s always a good time to learn something new that will improve your skill set.

Summer Educational Options

Summer is an excellent time for educaitonal programs.  With school out of session, students have more time flexibility to work on reinforcing their skills and enriching their knowledge base.  I have found tha there are some common catagories of support that people seek:

  1. Academic Remedication – Student who did not work to potential, or struggled with classes can use the summer for catch up and filling gaps in knowledge.  This is also helpful for students wishing to move up in class levels (example from basic to honors).
  2. Academic Foreshadowing – Students who are going to be taking classes in the fall that they may anticipating neeing  support for can preview the classes.  This is an excellent way to get a jump start on the topic and facilitate the academic year
  3. Test Prep – SAT / PSAT / ACT prep is most easily done over the summer. The students typcially have more time to work on and master material.
  4. Independent School Admissions Tests – ISEE / SSAT  - most independent schools expect these test to be taken in October / November.
  5. College Admissions – This is limited to rising seniors, however applications and the accompanying essays are time consuming.  The essays are an important part of the application process and often require work over time to perfect
  6. Other – what else do you want to / need to learn.

The best way to determine how summer educational programs can benefit your, or your child, is to connect with mAke the grAde for an evaluation.  We can be reached at 215 540 8378.
